Wrong side of the tracks

I don't like to get into politics on here b/c everyone is going to disagree to some degree. Here's what I thought was amusing. I was reading a friend of a friend's blog (got that?) who is out registering people to vote. The picture showed Obama plastered all over t-shirts alongside rapper t-shirts like 'Young Jeezy' in a strip mall. As I read below, she's in Gary Indiana and thought, 'oh that makes sense then'.

I'm sure most of you have never been to Gary, IN, and surely should never have any reason to. I would equate what I saw to somewhere between north Jax and Orlando's paramore street area. A friend and I once visited his relatives over a summer in Lexington, KY and as 17 year olds ventured out in the family convertable Benz. We crossed the border real quick because of a wrong turn and ended up in Gary, IN. Talk about being out of your environment. Two young white boys in a convertable mercedes in the wrong part of town. Oops. Luckily all was well and we quickly returned to the other side of the bridge. We got a lot of 'what the hell are you doing here' stares while trying to get turned around. We all knew we didn't belong there and had we stuck around who knows.

The whole thing made me think about these people are probably just going to vote for Obama because he's black and their black and its their duty, and made me sad thinking people really don't care what's going on in their country, they will complain about everything being bad either way. Then I remembered how many evangelicals will be voting for McCain simply because they are 'republican'. For those of us trying to educate ourselves and vote for something better for our country its like like pissing in the wind after a long night of drinking. It's unpleasant and it just won't end. Here's to voting with a bunch of ignorant people about important stuff.
