Aaaah to be home again. What a relief. It turned out to be a wild trip home. We spent a total of 22 1/2 hours on 3 planes and in 4 different airports. We got up early (5:30am Greek time) to make sure we got all settled and bags checked in time for our first of 3 flights. We make a quick stop at the bank to make sure we have enough cash just in case. Of course no one is out and about that early in the morning. They are all still drunk and in bed. As we get ready to leave the bank, for reasons beyond my scope of comprehension, my dad thought he had passed the marble bank steps eventhough we were parked in the dead center of the front of the building. Lesson here is car tires are trumped by marble steps every single time. So here we are at about 6am in a deserted parking lot having to change a tire as quick as we can so we dont lose time. We changed it in less than 5 minutes so not too bad.
Of course we made it to the airport no further problems and realized where the town was. They were all leaving as well. Out of the two flights leaving the morning for Athens (20 mins apart) we got the bigger plane. It was a much nicer flight and shorter. It turned out to be a 25 minute flight meaning we had about a 3 hour layover in Athens before our plane got there. Turned out the plane was late.... by about 2 hours which turned into 3-3 1/2. We spent 6 1/2 hours in the airport doing nothing! We found out later that apparently not only did they need to do maintenance on the plane when it landed but the morons forgot to file a flight plan meaning no one expected them to take a trip anywhere and couldnt take off. Once airborn and on our way it didnt take long to realize it was going to be a miserable trip. The flight was turbulent about 2/3 of the flight which got real annoying. Not only that but the nasty people on the plane with us managed to clog up 2 of the 4 bathrooms about halfway through our 10 hours. Can you imagine how hard it is to accomodate 250 people dumping drinks down their throats with only 2 bathrooms? Yikes!
We finally land down in Philly which felt like forever and all we wanted was to get off the damn plane. Customs was pretty quick and the guy was actually nice. He told us welcome back. Since our plane was so late coming in, we only had an hour layover instead of 3 which was nice but at the same time the last thing you want to do after being on a 10 hour flight was get right back on another one. This one was full of teenagers too. That was the longest 2 1/2 hour flight I think ive ever had. I wanted to sleep so bad but i couldnt.
To finish off the trip, once we landed and waited and waited, we realized that we were only 0-2 this year with flights. They lost our luggage once again, just like skiing this year. It showed up the next morning so I guess it was just nice we didnt have to lug it home ourselves. Now of course we are jet lagged out of our minds. We are so tired we dont want to do anything but lay around but not tired enough to sleep. Guess thats the price you pay for having a good time. Tomorrow is back to work.... eh.
